Television screen affect in FCP
Posted by Dominic Di-natale on January 8, 2007 at 7:48 amAnyone know how to create a TV screen effect in FCP rather like they used to do in Star Trek and other shows? It’s that banded effect I’m after. Also how do you get the RGB dots affect that you can see if you look really closely at a TV screen (you know, that thing you used to do as a kid – press your face against the screen until it sends you cross-eyed)
Cheers in advance

January 8, 2007 at 1:05 pmCreate a full-screen-sized image in Photoshop filled with narrow black lines separated by about 2 lines of “clear”.
Super or key this over your clean video.
Adjust the amount of the lined image you see to fit your taste.
Here’s a tutorial on how to do this.

There are also several 3rd-party filters for this purpose.

January 8, 2007 at 1:38 pmThere are a lot of TV effects in clips here: alunablue.com
These can be superimposed over your clips or used as transitions.

That is SOOOOO “1998” thinking.

Oh SURE Wayne, easy for YOU, maybe.
But DH has hit us with a staggering 100% price increase (DOUBLE the previous charge!)
Maybe you can pass along these outrageous price-points to the client, but my poor budgets can’t take cost-increases of that magnitude.
(Used to be $10, now its $20… OUCH!)
BTW, can I borrow a twenty from you for coffee?
(Tee-Hee) 😉

Does that DH thing show up as a transition or a filter or both?
