  Captured HDV clips – no video shows in viewer

  I’m trying to capture HDV clips recorded as 1080i60. The capture seems to be going fine, device control operating correctly,…The Browser shows a new clip with 1V,2A tracks, correct frame size (1440×1080), correct frame rate (29.97). But I note that in the Compressor column of the Browser, nothing is shown.
  Also no Compressor selection is shown in the clip’s Item Properties.

  When playing the clip in the Viewer only the Audio track plays – no video.

  Also Quicktime cannot play the video; but can play the Audio.

  I’m using FCP 5 running on a dual processor Power MAC G5, OS X v10.4. My camera Sony FX1 1080i is directly connected to the MAC via firewire.

  I’m wondering if FCP 5 does not have the HDV codec??

  Appreciate all replies. I’m new to HD.

  did you do a easy set up and pick the proper format, if that still dosnt do it trash your FCP pref files

  Thanks. FCP documentation suggested trashing the Preferences File for troubleshooting. So did that. Did not work.
  But I’m not sure that I am correctly digitizing the tape during the Capture.
  I thought that FCP 5 included the HDV codec but now not sure about that given the FCP Compresssor Fields in the Browser and in the Clip Item Properties had nothing in those columns.

  Do I need additional HW or SW?

  My Capture Prest is: HDV.
  Capture Preset is: SONY HDV Firewire.

  Did you do an easy set up and pick the one that matches what you shot., once you have done that and created a new sequence you should be ready to do.

  What camerea/deck are you using? Make shure the camera is not set to downconvert to DV (sony cameras have that option)
