    Hey all,

I have been having a reaccuring issue when using dvw 500 decks with my FCP pro system using a Decklink HD extreme.

If I lay down to tape, my audio is distorted and messed up. I send both audio through the SIF and video through the SIF setups… during playback of a tape the channel condition gets a red ligt as well…

I am assuming that this is some sort of communication problem that I can solve through settings on the deck. As I have had this problem using at least 4 different dvw-500s (but not on all DVWs I have used). And this problem presents on both of my systems, and on a another system that another company I know works with… Have not had this present as a problem on the new 2000’s… Any ideas?

A red channel almost always a physical problem with head to tape contact. The causes are many:

dirty heads, worn heads, bad tape, worn brushes, damaged tape path. If you have one deck that always gives you trouble them it’s time for some service. First try a digtial head cleaning tape. If one or two passes dosen’t fix the problem, then get the deck serviced.

in this case not the problem.

I rent my digi-beta decks, and have over the last 4 months had 10 decks from multiple sources, from the very cheapest places on up to the highest end places in town. It has presented in most decks.

If I insert edit just the audio, then insert edt just the video, this does not present as a problem. If I just crash record the video, not a problem. Only a problem when I output the video and audio together.

If I send the audio and Video both over the SIF buttons then the audio is messeded up and channel problem presents. If I have the audio in the SIF position and the video in the Component position (but still sending over SDI cable) then the audio and channel problems disappear, but the video gets video artifacts in it.

I am convinced that I am just doing something wrong in my set up as I find the same issue on both my final cut and my premiere systems, and because using the same set-up I have found the same problems on a third system…

    Any ideas?

You’ve got the output and the inputs connected to the deck at the same time. Disconnect the video input to the card while outputting to tape and the problem should go away.

    Hey all,

peter wiggins over at the decklink form solved it for me. I have the wrong Reference type selected… Just did a back flip for joy… After months of frustration, solved by a simple flip of a switch!!!

    Nice… I feel so smart ; )

    thanks all for the suggestions.
