I exported a DVC Pro HD 1080i file to the same size photo jpeg and got a very noticable gamma shift, it is lighter overall. Exported out of QT 7.1 and viewed both files on the same 23″ Cinema display at the same time. I suppose there may be a gamma filter in QT but I just thought this was weird.

This is because you are exporting it as a different codec. Different codecs have different gamma characteristics.
