  Round trip DV on PC to Motion/FCP and back

  I’m working with someone who’s editing a DV SD timeline in Vegas7 on a PC and am experimenting on the best way to export short clips to my Mac for some FCP but mainly Motion work, to be returned seamlessly to his timeline preserving the interlace sequence and levels.

  I’ve tried best quality mjpgA both ways but there’s an awful levels/gamma shift, can I ask for advice on the best way to do this? The sequences are 15-35 secs in length and I’d prefer not to have to use uncompressed. What’s responsible for these changes in level?

  Thanks Dave,

  I’ve got F4M and I’m pretty sure that Vegas will be able to export ‘Animation’ QT. Will those files be much smaller that ‘None’ compression (24 bit) do you think?

  Re the gamma issue, I checked that the files he was exporting weren’t screwed up gamma wise on the export by replacing them on his timeline and they looked fine, so it must definitely have been a Mac thing. Also I did an ‘uncompressd’ round trip to check things out and that worked perfectly too, but the file sizes were huge!

  What’s your suggestion about the F4M route, Vegas has a wonderful export codec selection and with my F4M (the full HD version), are there any useful options there do you think? How about H264?
