  Aspect Ratio

  Help, I’m confused.
  I’ve just read through Rick Gerard’s aspect ratio tutorial a few times, but I’m still confused.

  I have NTSC DV widescreen footage at 720×480 (1.2)
  I need to create graphics for this comp in illustrator.
  What pixel size should I create my graphics at in Illustrator? (856×480 maybe?)
  Should I interpret them at square pixel ratio? even through my comp is dv widescreen 1.2.

  I would make them 864×480 in Illustrator, then import into AE and interpret as square pixels, since that’s what your graphics are. If you then drag them into the widescreen comp, they will automatically fit.

  You could also make them 864×486, interpret the same way, and drag into the WS comp, letting the top and bottom pixels sit offscreen. Same thing. Because 864×486 is 16×9, and 864×480 is the same thing, but with pixels cut off the top and bottom. The same way that 720×480 was made from 720×486.
