  Sata Drives

  I have a MacbookPro 2.16 and want to edit DVCPRO HD. I will be using the FirmTec express 34 adapter. I have read good reviews on the G-Tech 500 gb and the 1 TB sata drives.If not the G-tech drives, what about a tower and which one and what drives to put in them.
  Can you diasy chain the G-Tech drives?

  If you’re using the Firmtek Express 34 adapter, then why not use the Firmtek hot-swap RAID enclosure as well (model 1EN2)? You’d be able to set it up with a pair of 500-gig Hitachi drives for a terabyte of storage, and be able to expand on that for a very reasonable price.

  Take a look at what Other World Computing has to offer. I just ordered another 2-drive hot-swap SATA enclosure from them. I have two more running on my G5 tower. They’ve been working flawlessly for a couple of years now.

  Yes I was thinking about there enclosures also.
  What 500 gb Hitachi drives do you have and the Model Numbers?
  Do you have the link for Other World Computing?

  It’s 500 GB and goes for just under $185. I paid about $90 for 250 GB SATA drives just a few months ago. Since then prices for the larger drives have come down considerably.

  I learned a lesson a while back and only buy what I need at the time. As prices fall, what I spend goes down as well.

  Thanks for the info. I’m going to order 2 drives and the firmTec enclosure.

  Have fun fishing in Hawaii. We can both enjoy the sun. I live in Florida.

  the G SATA 500G will serve you well
  but you cannot daisy-chain multiple SATA drives.

  The good news is that SATA drives are hot-swappable, so you don’t need to daisy chain them, just get some extra drive trays and some extra drives and you’ll never run out of clean usable space.
