Running external video
I have a G5 tower with an AGP video card. I am already using two 23s and do not want to give up any realestate there. I want to run video to an external video monitor(TV) for color correction and such and I am trying to figure out the best way of doing this. The footage I am using is HD so that is part of my delima.
Should I buy a PCI video card and run a DVI/ HDMI to a video monitor from that card?
Is there any issues running two video cards and using three mponitors out of a G5 tower?
Should I just buy an SD Firewire box and only veiw SD (not what I want)?Yea so obviously I know nothing about getting my HD signal out to a monitor. Any help would be appreciated and if there is something better that I am not aware of please let me know. This seems like it should be so simple but I am having a tough time getting info on this.

What format of HD?

If you have a monitor with that connection type, that might work. But for critical color correction? No color correction monitors have those types of connections.
You need an HD Capture card. The Decklink INTENSITY is the HDMI one, but again, won’t connect to color correction monitors. There is the Matrox MXO, but that is output only, no input. For the same price you can get a Decklink Extreme card. But I’d highly recommend the Kona products by AJA. Great products, fantastic tech support and easy to use. I have the Kona LH and love it. And they downconvert (as do the Decklinks) to SD so that you can view your HD footage on an SD monitor. Good for Color Correction, eeeh…not really. An HD set would be better. But it all depends…who is your audience? Broadcast TV requires a Broadcast monitor. But you can get away with consumer sets for stuff that doesn’t air.
Now…what monitor are you looking to hook this up to?

It is not for broadcast, it is for DVD. I would like to hook up to a 28″ HD set I have. I also would like to do this so I can see the correct pixel aspect and view the interpolation.
Thank you for all your suggestions. I have thought about a Kona card, it is just a little out of my budget right now. Hopefully in the future I can get one. Right now I am looking for a thrifty yet viable solution.
