One new software purchase?
Looking to make one new software purchase before year end (one large or several small purchases). Does anyone have any suggestions?
I do mostly industrial video (for the past 26 years). Marketing, Training, Non-Profit fundraising. Also about 10 to 30 local/regional TV spots for cable.
I own Lightwave 3D (an older version) and haven’t used that lately. (some past industrial clients needed equipment animation)
I’m thinking of getting After Effects Pro to bolster my ability to do nice things with graphics and text.
Would I be better off with something else that integrates nicely with FCP and might be more beneficial to someone like myself? Maybe Boris or other Plug-Ins.
What do you use that you “can’t live without” or gives your shows that added “punch”?
I’d appreciate any advice. Hope this is not too broad a question for this forum. I searched under AfterEffects and did some reading, but was hoping for more pointed thoughts, comments or advice.

I couldn’t live without After Effects. It’s the first compositing app I learned and although it’s sometimes clunky and overloaded with code, it still allows me to do things when other apps will not. After Effects is still an “essential” tool for me, and allows me to do custom effects that many plug-ins can provide, but one that I might use only once or twice. Compositing and visual effects in FCP is getting better, but I think AE still rules that segment.
