  project launch, corrupt project file

  Hi Guys,

  I have had my G4 Powerbook drive fail which led me to having to do a hard shut down. My project and all media are on external lacie drives. They all seem to be there and the drives mounted up no problem ( I have gone out and purchased a imac 20″ and loaded FCP on it ) on the new imac. Now when I try and open the file from the drive with FCP it gives me “general error ( 41)”. Any suggestions on how to recover this project file ?
  I have tried moving the project file to my desktop, trashing externals and opening the project file but I still get the same error.

  Please help.

  Where did your project autosave files go? Are they on the Powerbook, or on the Lacie?

  It looks likely that the project file is corrupted – and it probably happened when the system borked. You need to recover an autosaved version of the project. Often, by default, these autosaves go on the system drive – so you may have to recover it off the powerbook by whatever means necessary.

  Usually, on a big project, I save multiple back-up versions of the project at different stages. After you’ve been burnt by this once, you realise how badly you can be messed up by one tiny little file.
