Hi Guys … I’m looking to replace the UPS Power Supply backup system here for a FCP standard Edit bay …ie, Dual G5, two flat screen monitors, speakers. NTSC monitor, two decks, Mackie sound board etc…. the people at TrippLite are asking be about total amps or watts …. “Can you provide the total number of amps or watts your equipment requires and how much time you wish to run on battery power during a power outage? ” If anybody could help me select a good power backup system , that would be most appreciated . thanks BW

You first have to decide whether you want to ‘run’ the system for a little while or just enough time to save and safely shutdown the system. If you want to run for a while and wait out the power outage, then you need a serious UPS. (A 2250W/3000 VA Unit would give you about 10-15 minutes of full power ) If you just want about 5 minutes to save your work, then you should be OK with an APS 1000 or more size UPS. I’ve run an APC 1400 with a G5 DP 1.7, 2 x 21″ CRTS’s, 5 Drive RAID sytsem, 4 FW drives with no problems.

FYI: I’ve bought 3 or 4 different units from these guys and they are both cheap and work perfectly. Recommended.

Ernie, Thanks for your input and the link. I just had a power hit tonight and lost a little time-intensive work. Time to upgrade my APC unit to a 1400.
