ac3 audio codec
I used mpeg streamclip to copy back in old footage off a dvd into my mac(os x). I have done this before with no problems, and was able to edit the footage in FCP 5.1. However, i remember for this project, i originally burned it in DVD studio pro 4 using dolby 2.0 audio. When I copy it back in using MPeg streamclip, neither that program or FCP seems to play any audio but video is fine. I tried downloading ac3 audio codec, but I am unable to install it. A message pops up asking me to choose a program, and when i try to, all are “greyed out” and i still hear no audio in the project. Anyone have any idea what can be wrong, or what I am doing wrong? Sorry, I am fairly new to the mac world. Any help will be apreciated. Thank you.

MPEG Streamclip should recognize the AC3 Audio without any additional software. I ran a test where I captured video and audio from a DVD with audio encoded in AC3, 128 Kbs, Dolby 2.0. I was able to successfully export to Quicktime, Apple DV/DVCPro Codec with audio.
When you open .VOB file in MPEG Streamclip check the field in the bottom left labeled “Audio PID.” It should show something like “128 AC3 2.0” (the first number is the bitrate chosen when the audio was encoded). You should be able to play the VOB file in Streamclip and hear the audio. If you can’t hear the audio or the setting don’t appear then something may be wrong with the data on your DVD.
In the Movie Exporter Dialog box make sure that “Sound Settings” are Uncompressed, Stereo or Mono, 48Khz.
These are the settings that work for me.

When you say “copy it back” what precisely do you mean? That terminology certainly isn’t a command in Streamclip and so it tells us absolutely nothing we can use to help you. When posting here you must give specific information such as, I opened my ________ file from my VIDEO_TS folder in Streamclip and saved it as a ________ file.

I’m sorry for any confusion-i opened the VOB files from the video TS folder on the DVD, and exported it as DV.
