I am creating Quicktime references in AVID and importing them into FCP. When I do this and lay the QT referenced clips on the timeline they have to be rendered to play or edit them. Is there a setting or a step I am missing to have these clips playback in real time? Thanks –Mrandom

make sure the QuickTime file matches your FCP sequence settings.

    > I am creating Quicktime references in AVID and importing them into FCP< References out of Avid? You mean you're running Avid and FCP on the same machine. What codec was used in the Avid? FCP probably cannot use that codec directly so, yes, they'll need to render. You might want to export from Avid using standard codecs, saves allkinds of headaches, but it assumes your Avid stuff is gold and won't need to be re-edited later. Umm, what's an Avid? (Rhetorical, do not answer.) bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

You need to export them in the same Quicktime codec as your sequence in FCP. Unfortunately, the Avid Compressed and Uncompressed codecs do not work in FCP.

What codec are you using in FCP? Is your Avid on PC or Mac?
