losing P2 frames between the viewer and the timeline
New to the forums. Having an issue with my p2 footage. In final cut 5.0.4, between the viewer and the timeline I’m losing the last two frames of my P2 clip. Obviously this is causing havoc when trying to stitch together a broken clip over 2 p2 cards. To be clear: in the viewer I have two extra frames at the end of the clip which do not appear when I drop it into the timeline. So the frames exist, they weren’t lost or dropped on import, I just can’t get em into the darn timeline. Anyone having similar problems? Any solutions out there?

If this helps: this is not the case with SD footage. All DV frames drop into the timeline just fine

Was this footage shot on a Firestore? Do you have access to the mxf files?

Is it not true that pre 5.1 versions of FCP are a bit buggy when it comes to P2 material? I just upgraded mine to the universal binaries because I have a P2 project coming up and that’s what I’ve read/heard. It took less than a week to get the crossgrade discs. Sent them last week, got the new ones this week.

no it wasn’t. Although I’ve read shooting with the firestore has similar issues. We shot to cards, and offloaded to a PC formatted drive in the field (not fat 32), and then moved them over to the mac. I used P2 log to view and convert the MXF files for FCP, but I do still have access to the original MXF files. I’ve discovered something else in my quest for a solution. If I stitch back together the clip (broken over two P2 cards) in an HD timeline, the missing “frames” show up. but in a SD timeline they’re gone. tried to trick FCP by exporting the two clips as a QT movie, but in the QT movie file (SD or HD) the frames disappear again. Am I making sense to anyone? Yikes.
