  FCP Letterbox export for DVD

  Hi, I’m a long-time Avid editor and I’m cutting my teeth on Final Cut Pro by editing a short film I just directed. We shot 720_24p in 16:9 and I have been cutting the film in 16:9. I know this must be the simplest fix in the world, but for some reason I can’t figure out how to output for iDVD or DVD Studio Pro at a 4:3 aspect with letterbox for playback on SD televisions. Please pardon my ignorance.

  John,

  If you check the anamorphic box it will create a DVD that automatically displays 16×9 on widescreen TVS and letterboxed on SD TVs. Its the same all over, Avid, FCP, and all Windows-based DVD apps, as its part of the DVD spec.

  Sounds great…is the anamorphic box located in the Final Cut export settings? If so, can you recommend a good codec for creating a high-quality DVD from 720/60p at 23.98 footage?

  The checkbox is in the DVD authoring application.
