Is there a compatability problem with osX and tiger and the matrox rt?????My second monitor is not recognized thru the matrox board

Why are you using the matrox rt mac? FCP natively can do more in RT than the RTMac.

If you are using the card just to output to a second monitor, you are better off using the second port on your graphics card. The display output on the RTMac was/is only 640×480 (great for the blind)

That’s the kind of attitude Matrox has had since OSX was released. They never promised ANY support for anything but OS9 and it took them about 2 years to get a working driver for OSX only to have OSX updated and the whole thing started over with 10.2 or .3. Matrox is well known for releasing products for either Mac or PC platform that are hyped in the begining, but then they begin designing the next product and drop support for the previous. Keeps them from being a big contender with the AJAs and Blackmagics of the biz.
But still, there is no reason to use the Matrox anyway.
The benefits were RT effects (2 layers of video and 1 layer of graphics). Exept for rotation, FCP can do more on it’s own now with processors alone. It can also do lower resolutions and more layers. The matrox was stuck with exacting hardware specs.
Another benefit – extra monitor port. 640×480 and was ok for bins. Actually the rez was higher in OS9, but I think in OSX they never got it fixed. Macs have an extra monitor port now.
3rd benefit was that the monitor was always in sync with the analog output. Apple fixed this years ago by adding a playback delay for the computer monitor that is adjustable.
Good riddance to those guys. Don’t buy their stuff. They’ve got some new solution now they’re pushin’. Don’t fall for it.

Doesn’t every company do this? If companies didn’t begin design of a new product after releasing (or in most cases before releasing) a product, they’d go out of business.
I’m also curious as to for how long you expect a company to support the product? For the DigiSuite line Matrox kept coming out with free software updates for 8 years after the initial release of the product. Obviously lower ticket items would have a shorter live span. Isn’t that normal in every business?
As for the RTMac, have you ever tried working with Apple? They are a very secretive bunch and don’t let anybody in as to what they’re doing. I mean, c’mon look at when the RTMac came out. It added accelerated realtime functionality to FCP. Then with the next version of FCP, FCP alone could do more than the RTMac could! Just a guess here but it looks to me like Apple is the one that screwed everybody over!
