  • 5.1.2 Canvas/Viewer changes when playing HD clip…

I think I’ve seen this covered somewhere before but can’t find any instance of this in searching through the COW forums.

When playing a 10bit HD clip (1920 x 1080) in either the FCP Viewer or the Canvas (from the timeline) the video image on my computer monitor goes lighter… the image on the video monitor does not change. When I stop the clip goes back to its normal brightness on the computer monitor. It’s really bugging me! Have tried all the normal stuff… trashing prefs, etc.

Anyone encounter this or have a fix for it?

    TIA,

    Best,
    Harley

This is normal for a lot of systems depending on the codec. This has no effect on your output and really shouldn’t bother you at all if you’re using an external monitor. Just ignore it.

Thanks Walter, but it’s pretty hard to ignore.

Any idea why this happens… and on my system only on HD?

For what it’s worth, the same thing happens on my system when working in 1080-10 bit uncompressed. The levels in the canvas change depending on whether the clip is playing or stilled. The output thru the Kona 3 stays constant. I agree, it is VERY annoying.
Since no one seems to have an answer, I’ve just learned to live with it.
