Overwrite that file 5.1!
Something that really annoys me about 5.1…. you’ve just export a QT movie, self-contained or otherwise, and then decide to make a quick change and re-export it. It used to be you’d just overwrite the old file so there was no condusion, but now you get that “this file is in use by another application” nonsense. fooey! TGIF, I’m about to drop kick my G5 🙂

Add a – or a . or a 2 or something to the name.

that’s what I’ve adapted to doing, but I’d rather just overwrite so when I go to iDVD or whatever there’s no room for confusion.

This has been a problem for a long time for me, pre 5.1. I don’t like it either.

Did you open the file in something after you exported it? That’s usually the case. Like QT still has it’s hooks in it. And if you opened it in FCP it’s definitely in the 10 previous clips pull down in the viewer, so that’s why FCP has it’s hooks in in possibly.

no you dont have to open the file in anything,
FCP still claims it’s “in use” and wont overwrite.

I have to agree with Nick, it is boring. There’s nothing more boring than having to go through the export motions again again just because FCP won’t overwrite it. All i want to do is export the movie so I can have fun with it somewhere else, instead FCP gets in the way of my fun.
