Pixel aspect ratio confusion
The footage I’m using is DV25. I know that FCP captures this footage at a .9 aspect ratio. My Sequence is set to the same ratio. In my viewer and canvas windows, it shows the pixels as square, which is the way it shows on a TV, right? If I create a project in Motion, and use the NTSC DV preset, I know that the pixel aspect ratio is .9 again. And there is a setting under view for “correct for aspect ratio.”
1. I should use these settings in FCP and Motion so that if I draw a square, when it is viewed on TV, it is a sqaure, correct?
2. If I create a graphic in photoshop, using the DV preset, again it’s aspect ratio is .9. Using “Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction.” I see the image as the TV sees it and my square can be square. But what happens to another image, say a photo or something else that wasn’t created with a pixel aspect ratio of .9? Does it get squished on the TV?
3. And what about AE? Should I turn on the pixel aspect ratio correction and then draw my squares and circles and whatever?
4. I bring in my captured footage from FCP into AE and turn on aspect ratio correction and it still seems stretched. Is that my mind playing tricks on me?
