  Batch Export: Self-contained necessary?

  Hello Creative Cow,

  I am working on a project that was captured in 8 bit uncompressed and needs to be down-resed to DV50. I had an editor use Batch Export to do so last night but didn’t tell him to check the “make self-contained box.” If this is not checked in Batch Export, does FCP create reference files for each of the original clips or will they function without the original media on the system?

  My concern is if I delete the 8 bit source clips the exported DV50 files may not work properly. So far there seem to be no problems but not ready to empty the trash just yet.

  Any thoughts?

  If you change the format, they have to be self contained I’d think in any event.

  If you move the original media into another folder, you can check to see if they are self contained or not in any event.

  Hi Jerry,

  I moved the original media to the trash and all the exported DV50 clips are linked and playing fine. Should I assume everything is good to go?
