G5 Optical tray
I have been having issues with the optical tray in my G5. Just about any CD or DVD will not load up after being placed into the tray. Sometimes restarting with the disc in the tray will work. Just today, I placed a audio CD in the tray to demo some music and the Disc does not show up.

Try “logging out” and then log right back in again.

I have done that as well. Again, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. This is an original G5 dual 2.0 and I’m the original owner. The tray issues started this year so I really am not sure what could have created the issues and since it’s hardware… Guess maybe it needs a look under the hood from a repair guy?

My dual 2 gig G5 (3 pci-x) just blew it’s original oa7 pioneer drive so I replaced it with a Pioneer 111 which was only $40.00. Runs great now. I had to remove the 2 front feet so it sits down on an angle so the tray will clear the door of the G5 but you still have the 2 back feet to lock into position with the lock lever. $40.00 is cheaper than a service charge the way I see it and it’s the latest and greatest dual layer burner. I bought 2 for that price and put one in my dp g4 too. (replaced the oa4 and it fit right in properly.)
