Avid bin info into FCP?
I’m seriously thinking about getting FCP Studio setup. My one concern is that all of my raw tapes (in the hundreds) are clipped and logged as bins in my current Avid system. Can I bring just the bins into FCP for batch capture and edit. Sales rep thought Automatic Duck would do this but their website just talks about edited timelines and EDLs, effects and such. If I have to spin through all those tapes again I’d just as soon get another Avid. Thanks.

Export your Avid bins as ALE’s. Then use the above software to convert to FCP batch lists.

Will you be keeping your Avid as well?
If not, get a copy of Avid Medialog, so at least you can open the Avid projects to see what was in the bins.
You will not be able to open any Avid Sequences, however.Also, if you don’t have your Avid system, you cannot, later, buy Automatic Duck to open your Avid Sequences in FCP, as the first step is to export the Sequences OUT of the Avid…

Thanks for the info. I will still have one of my two Avids. I’m actually not worried about sequences, as we don’t do any offlining here. Projects live on whatever system they start on. But we have sooo much stock footage that we just create batch lists that we trade between systems.
Can you tell me more about this ALE export, is that an Avid Xpress Pro function, or do I need some other Avid or aDuck software for that?

Yes. It’s an Avid function…you can export any Bin as an ALE file. For specific instructions, use Avid Help…I am not in front of an Avid now
