  • Work around for Canon XLH1 24F?

Posted by Matt Devino on September 16, 2006 at 9:22 pm

Got an XLH1 and 24F is not supported by FCP, I need to capture footage and get it into FCP to edit. Does anyone have a work around for this? All I have to capture with is FCP and iMovie, can I do anything or do I have to wait for 5.1.2 to come out?

Either wait for FCP 5.1.2 or purchase an HD capture card from either AJA or BlackMagic.

I have a workflow for you if you have a card of some sort. It’s in fact written for the Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro card and uses MPEG Streamclip. I’ve been using this an an indie film for 6 months now.

    Here it is:

I have been struggling with FCP capture of 24f Canon footage and, due to enormous help from people on various bulletin boards such as Barlow Elton and Greg Huson, have now got a workflow for which I have sweated blood.

I am using a Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro and Mac G5 dual 2 gig.

It’s a bit wierd, but here goes:

    Harry,

All I can say is, you must really love your work. If I had to go through all that I’d probably shoot myself.

What about recording / transferring your footage from Canon to Firestore’s FS – 4 HD,
and then from FS-4 HD just dump it onto your hard drive.
I don’t know about the timeline settings for 24f, but at least you’ve
got your footage in without the capture / sync problems.

It sounds like a lot, but that’s because I’ve been so specific about settings. In fact it’s a two step process: 1. Capture and 2. Convert.
