What are the best storage/hard drives ?
Posted by Dog Food on September 15, 2006 at 5:03 amI am about to embark on a project that could last 5 years and involve 200-500 tapes.
I have used 500 GB Lacie Dirves for all my previous project (6 TB TOTAL).I would like to have 1-2TB of storage available for this next project and I would like to keep my drive costs at around $2,000.
any suggestions?
thanks

This appears to be the best set up.

September 15, 2006 at 8:30 pm“DUAL d2 Extree (2ch) means that it’s 2 LaCie d2 HD in a RAID 0 configuration across 2 channels. Probably 1 drive connected to the built-in port and 1 drive connected to a FW800 card.
Hope this helps.

September 16, 2006 at 4:47 amI have two 1TB G-Raids which have been working for about nine months with no problems.
They were about $1k each.

September 16, 2006 at 5:10 amI was told that I need to use “special software” if I want to run a RAID 0 configuration.
Is this true?
Is the software free from Lacie?thanks

September 16, 2006 at 7:04 amG-Raids and LaCie Big Disks have two drives that are HARDWARE Raided to Raid 0…so no software is needed. And no special software is needed to raid the drives, the Disk Utility does a fine job.

September 17, 2006 at 12:27 amHi,
To set up a RAID 0 configuration between 2 or more drives, you can simply use OS X Disk Utility (it’s free, part of OS X). Once you have your drives connected, open disk utility and you can set up your RAID in a couple clicks.
