Multicam editing nightmare
So I have never had to use the multicam feature in FCP until now. I am trying to cut together something from a concert; just one song. Turns out that one of the three cameras got shot off for a few seconds during the very song that I need. So I have sunc camera 1, 2, and 3 by in points based on a drum beat. Now cam 3 obviously goes out of sync because of the camera shut off. So would like to sync that part to the existing multiclip by a drum beat at the end of the song. In theory this should work, but whenever I have tried it does not put the clip in the right place and then it ends up messing up my other clip that was from the same tape. So, instead of making subclips for the two sections I have exported the clips as movies and reimported them. I want to just insert the clip into the multiclip, but for some reason now it wont let me. Why would the pop up menu to insert angle show up but then it doesn’t insert? It’s really late, so I might not be making sense.

Sometimes when i try to “overwrite an angle” as fcp calls it, the multiclip does get wierd, throwing the other cameras out of sync n such.
you can try and figure out wahts going on, or just make a new multiclip, and start using that instead of the one with the tc break.
if you cut in this new multiclip from the point of the song where the camera breaks, you will be ok to the end of the show, and you can still use the first multiclip from the beginning to that point.

Where were you at 1AM when I was pulling my hair out. Of course this it a great solution. I think I was so tired that I never would have thought of that, cuz I just wanted so badly for it to work the right way. Why I should think that I shouldn’t have to perform a work around when so much of this business is based on work arounds?! I still wish I could get it to work, but seeing as I can’t and I have now wasted time I will do exactly what you say…perfect. I figured out after I posted that in order to insert a new angle you have to open up a multiclip that is already in a timeline, you can’t insert it into a multiclip that you open from the browser…figured that out after much frustration. But, like you, I had the same problem where other clips’ time codes were being thrown off when I tried to insert new angles. Frustrating…but I should just realize those problems exist and find a way to work around it. Thanks for the response; very helpful.Best,
