I’ve seen posts from people that have similar problems, but I just can’t find a solution:
I’m trying to capture HDV with a Sony HDV 1080i deck.
I’ve put my capture preset in HDV, and my device control is set on Sony HDV 1080i50 FireWire.
When I try to capture I control the deck, I gan receive the timecode, but I get no image whatsoever.
When I set my capture preset in Apple Intermediate Codec I can capture image, but I get no valid Timecode.
When I try to capture reducing it down to DV Pal compression there’s no problem except it’sw taking around 1,2Gb per minute, just as if I was capturing uncompressed PAL 8 bit material.
I’ve changed the deck settings over and over, I’ve set the i-link conversion on and off, I’ve set the VCR to Auto or HDV, I’ve tried turning the deck on before entering the project, I’ve tried turning it on after i’m in, I’ve tried turning it on before turning the G5 on…
    nothing works.
I’m pretty sure it’s just some stupid little thing I’m forgetting to do, I just can’t manage.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks very much

TioChan- What works for me: Quit out of FCP. Set deck I/O settings to: VCR: HDV, Component: 1080i, iLink Conv.: Off, AV/DV out: Off.
Plug firewire into camera then computer. Check computer System Profiler (apple icon>more info) and see if deck is listed under firewire devices.
If there launch FCP use HDV easy setup. Make sure capture preset is HDV and device control is Sony HDV Firewire. I hope this helps.

    Nope, still not working…
My last shot is trying to capture it with the same camera with which the footage was recorded, hopefully i’ll be able to do it by the end of the week. I can’t find the AV/DV out preset on my deck at any rate.
    Thanks anyway
