I am trying to open a project but I keep getting a warning that FCP cannot find a movie file and without it the movie cannot play properly. The timeline and project opens after I hit cancel but at the last second the warning comes up again and then the beachball spins and FCP not responding results.
Any suggestions on how to get around this? Thank you.

Sounds like you have a Quicktime reference movie in the timeline, but do not have available some of the footage (or render files) the reference file is pointing to.

Try not having your media drive online…this will cause everything to be offline. Remove the reference movie clip from the timeline. Quit. Remount your media drive, then re-open FCP. It shouldnt look for the missing file anymore.

    John,
Thank you for the suggestion. In the last few minutes I managed to open the project from the autosave vault and then I used render manager to purge all render files, re-rendered everything and it now seems to be okay. Thanks, again.
