Our project has excellent production sound on the whole, but we do have camera noise problems in scenes shot in small rooms. (The typical hum/whir of a Super 16mm camera.) Could someone please enlighten me about the most effective way to eliminate camera noise in FCP? Thanks!

Not with FCP. I use Sound Forge on PC or I think soundtrack on Mac has a noise reduction. Grab some ‘room tone’ of the camera to teach the filter what to take out and it works very well.
