After complete system reinstall???
After reistalling the OS and FCP all kinds of spiffy new features are enabled on my machine that I never knew about. Apparently Apple disables lots of stuff when they load the OS onto the system hard drives at the factory. Here are just a couple I remember:
1. In addition to the standard progress bar, Compressor now shows a pop up window that actually counts frames as it compresses or renders. Never saw that one before.
2. The progress bar is also much more colorful now in all apps and actually displays progress much better than before when downloading, rendering, etc.
3. There are all kinds of sound effects enabled now that happen on just about every mouse click or operation in every app on the computer. (Is this by any chance supposed to be disabled for FCP? Will those sound effects possibly end up being recorded if capturing or printing to tape?)

1) I always saw this when exporting straight to Compressor from FCP.
2) 10.4.7 includes psychedelic hallucinogens in the code. Bits like to have fun too.
3) You can definitely turn those off in your system sounds control panel.

Was your old system not updated to the most recent version and now your new one is? There’s nothing special about the way Apple installs the OS.
As for the numbers:
1) You’re exporting to Compressor right out of Final Cut, right? That window is actually part of Final Cut. It usually stays behind the compressor window so you don’t usually see it. Sometimes it just pops forward for no reason and you do see it. But it’s always there somewhere.
2) and 3) Either the joy of reformatting has affected your perception or it does have something to do with an updated version number. I know that “more colorful bars” sure isn’t a setting you (or Apple) can change in the preferences.
