  • transition question in FCP

Posted by David Wheeler on August 29, 2006 at 11:51 am

Have a problem every so often in FCP with transitions. Once and awhile i’ll add a transition between two clips and only a mere sliver is there. When i zoom in to drag and lengthen transition it doesn’t let me.
Does anyone know why this occurs? It only happens with certain clips and i just have leave as a cut or manually fade the opacity in and out to create transition but cannot figure out why sometimes only a “sliver” of a transition appears.

Any advice would be very helpful…thank you,

    David

The one frame transition occurs when there is a handle only on the outgoing side of the edit. This doesn’t occur when the handle is only on the incoming side of the edit.

    All the best,

You have to edit the material before you put it into the timeline and apply your transition, or you have to ripple the material in the timeline. One way is described in the link above.
