Been pointed to an ftp site to download Discovery logos. The folder has .aaf files which I don’t know how to open. FCP & Motion don’t know what to do with this file format. I think Vegas can handle this format, but clock is ticking on dispatch. Any clues from those who know how to deal with this file?

Otherwise, does anyone know where a simple QT file of the standard 16:9 Discovery Logo can be sourced. I am working in PAL.

There was a free AAF import/export plugin for FCP 4.x from Automatic Duck that apparently is no longer officially available.
You can still download it here:
    https://www.appleclub.com.hk/finalcutpro/extensible.html
(Search for ‘Download free plugin’ on the page, the actual d/l link is too long to post here.)
As far as I know, it support the AAF 1.0 spec only.
I have no idea if it (still) works (esp. with FCP 5.x).
I actually was never able to get anything into FCP with it.
But it’s still worth a try.

The commercial successor(s) to this product is/are available from AutomaticDuck which also supports the newer AAF 1.1 Edit Protocol spec.

    Thanks Oliver.

I will download the plug in and try it out. Meanwhile I was able to source a JPEG of the logo which will do, but I am a bit surprised that Discovery were only offering an AAF. With MXF and all the other competing interchange formats, life is going to be full of Auto Duck fixes methinks.

    Hey Michael,

If you didn’t get it figured out, let me know. I work at the post facility for DSC, and should be able to locate you a quicktime file or two.
