Time saving tip for dissolves
Today I had a client bring in a Quicktime movie of a project. Basically it was just stills cut on a timeline with music. All he needed was some “fancy” graphics within the piece (Originally cut on a Premiere 6.5 system). After looking at the finished piece, he mentioned that he should have done dissolves rather than cuts. He wanted to know if I could “fix” the video to incluse dissolves. With the original JPG’s unavailable, I could do it by using freezeframes of the original video-doable but rather time consuming since there were almost 100 stills in the video.
Today’s tip?
I simply bladed the portions of the video to separate it from the graphics and added a motion blur within the motion tab of the clip. Using a 32 step blur and a percent value of around 900% it gave me a pretty good “dissolve” everywhere there was a cut on the timeline. Very quick and easy to do. Just set up the motion blur once and render. The entire video took about 15 minutes to render. Figure how long it would have taken doing each frame one at a time!
Plus I had another happy client. That’s what we’re here for. A very simple solution-fast & easy.
