Mono to Stereo?
Posted by Chris Wright on August 21, 2006 at 3:49 pmIs there a filter I can apply to my audio track that will change it to stereo, or that will duplicate the mono channel so that it shows up in both the right and the left channels?
Thanks.

August 21, 2006 at 4:21 pmWell it wouldn’t be stereo, but just pan the track to center. “Ctrl+.” (control period)
Stereo is defined more as a separation of sound from different channels. I think what you’re talking about would still be mono. Just coming coming out of multiple speakers. Dual-mono or something.

August 21, 2006 at 6:10 pmWell you can’t make a mono sound source stereo but you can emulate stereo. During the initial days of television when stereo was a new idea they used to experiment with delaying the mono sound source and putting it on the right channel- sometimes adding a bit of reverb to “wet” the sound a bit on the delayed source. They did that same thing to the old sound recordings that were originally in MONO.
Another thing that we regularly do is to take a mono sound source and embellish it with stereo natural sound sources.
What is the nature of the sound source you are seeking to make stereo?

August 21, 2006 at 8:17 pmIt’s a video recording we taped last week of one of our colleagues here at work. We had a wireless lav on her lapel, and the audio just consisted of this person giving her presentation. It appears that the pan to center solution provided earlier should be sufficient for this project.
