Sony LMD 2020 image quality problems
I recently bought a Sony LMD-2020 and I am having problems with a very slight trajectory/ghosting following all motion in NTSC video. When the footage is B&W, the trajectory is easier to notice because it has a slight orange color. With this problem, it is impossible to use the monitor for any kind of reliable color correction, regardless of the quality of video input, component, composite, SDI etc. I actually sent the monitor back to Sony, thinking it was broken, and they told me that it was within spec, and that I should not expect an LCD monitor to look as good as a CRT. Is this true? The LMD-2020 is simply a shitty looking SD monitor? As it is, it’s basically unusable as a true post production monitor. Are there other people having the same quality issues?
I’m using FCP HD, outputting with a BlackMagic DeckLink HD card.

Send it back. They demand a huge pile of money for a mediocre 20″ monitor. I’ve not heard of anyone pleased with the Luma Series monitors.

And while you’re at it, get yourself one of the new Panasonic LCDs. Both the 17″ & the 26″ are great.

It’s too late to send back. Panasonic, huh? I hear they’re the favorite over seas. Anybody else seen ghosting on the LMD 2020, though? I feel like its false advertising on Sony’s part. I honestly can’t do my job with the monitor and I know I’m not the only guy.

I’ve seen the ghosting/trailing on the Luma series as well with 1080 50i HD materials. Look somewhat like a motion blur trail effect.

Is there anything that can be done about this? The monitor is a tool that doesn’t do its job. There has to be a large group of people with this same problem. It’s not legal to sell a car that doesn’t drive.
