I have no idea why this works and I’m sure there is an easy explanation. I’ve just tested it though and it works. Please note that this is just basically for a quick viewing of some footage. I don’t care about the image quality as this is just to show the content (casting for a doc). This is not for any kind of final product.

I have PAL footage that I’ve imported using the DV-PAL Easy Setup. I put about 4 mins of one clip into the timeline. I then exported it out as a Quicktime movie.

I then opened up DVDSP4, set it to NTSC in the Preferences, and then simply imported the aforementioned PAL clip. I then burned the disc.

I then put it into a regular dvd set top box and it played fine on my tv. I’m assuming that some cropping occurred because of the diff in NTSC and PAL dimensions but otherwise, the quality was fine.

I have a couple of questions.

    1) Is DVDSP doing some sort of conversion of the PAL footage to NTSC (frame rate wise)? Or is this a non-issue?
    2) If it’s not doing some conversion during the encoding to mpeg2, is the dvd playing at a different frame rate (sped up? or is it slowed down?)

Thanks in advance for any help.
