speeding up audio track
Posted by Michael Capehart on August 15, 2006 at 12:59 pmI need to increase speed of an audio track to 200% for a music video shoot. I will have the band lip sync to this faster version. Then tak the video and slow back down to 100% with the original music for a MTV style look. Any ideas on how to speed up the music track for the lip sync session?

August 15, 2006 at 1:16 pmTake the sound into Soundtrack. There is an effect that will allow you to compress the time of a track and astll maintain the pitch. Not sure if it will doo a 200% speed up. but it works well at other values. It’ under the process pulldown and is called time stretch. It will also compress a track.

August 15, 2006 at 1:36 pmModify speed does not change the speed. It just shortens the track. The sound is the same. I need the 2Xversion sound. FAster speed.

I just did it here and it performed exactly as I said it would.
Drop the audio file into the timeline. Modify > Speed > 200% My audio is now playing at 2x speed.

August 15, 2006 at 6:37 pmDepending on your computer, and version of FCP, you might have to render the speed effect first.
If you don’t have RT enabled, or are using an older system, it might not be able to play it back at 2x speed without rendering.
