  Editing in 23.98 or 29.97…which one is better?

  Hi all. Per suggestion of a friend of mine, I performed a “reverse telecine” in Cinema Tools on 24p footage I shot with a panny dvx100, to get the footage from 29.97 (cuz I used 24p standard, not advanced) to 23.98. Now, all my footage is in OfflineRT codec (didn’t have space for a full res capture), and I plan to cut the footage on a 23.98 timeline. So..once I finish the offline edit and need to “recapture” my footage for the online edit, how do you suggest I do it? I ask because I wonder if Final Cut wil be able to recognize the TC in 24fps, since the source TC on the tapes is 29.97.

  Any suggestions? (I kept my original 29.97 footage, just in case editing in 23.98 is not a good idea).

  Aaron, you’re Hosed!

  First, ask yourself, why do you want to work @ 23.97? Are you doing a film out? Is there any film in this project? What is your final distribution format? If it’s NTSC, SD tape, then it’s going to playback @ 29.97… and you’re already there with your original material from the dVX-100.

  It seems to me that you’re creating a workflow that’s doomed to fail. Before you get too deep, find someone who’s done this before and seek their advice.
