    Hi all,

New to HD, and trying to resolve a very annoying issue…

    I have FCP 5.04 and Compressor 2.01 on a dual G4.

I’ve editing some HD footage from my Sony cam and am ready to encode to mpeg2 with compressor.

I’ve selected several different settings (DVD best encode, fastest encode 16×9, but regardless of which one I choose, the Mac kernel panics partway through and bombs.

I thought initially the footage may had gotten corrupted so I recaptured again, created a new project file etc.

I even did a test for a 45 sec clip, even that crashed the Mac.

I can export to Quicktime, but can only import into DVDSP if I’ve changed the format to HD-DVD. I was hoping to get it into mpeg2 and make a standard DVD…

Am I missing something? Any ideas? This is getting really frustrating and time consuming.

I noticed there is a crossgrade to 5.1.1 for Final Cut… It is this a bug in Compressor, maybe?

    Thanks!

    Rob

“if I’ve changed the format to HD-DVD. I was hoping to get it into mpeg2 and make a standard DVD”

If you create a HD-DVD in DVDSP it will not play in standerd DVD players.

right… that’s why the attempt to encode to mpeg2 and make a standard dvd. If I try to make a standard DVD in DVD SP and import the Quicktime file I was able to export, then I get incompatible format as it is still in some kind of HD format, I assume.

If I change it to HD DVD in DVDSP, as you state, then yes, I won’t be able to play it on a standard DVD player, so that doesn’t help me.

If I figure out why the encode is crashing or other options to get around that, then I should be fine.

Thanks for any assistance or suggestions.
