    hey all

i have a uvw 1800 and a kona lh and i am getting some wierdness when i try nad edit to tape

    1. after laying down a large chunk of a one hour show with assemble edit, i went back and tried to insert a one minute piece using insert edit. everytime i set up my insert edit it only shows black in the desktop mirror, and edits about 15 frames before aborting. HOWEVER if i go to assemble, i get video in the mirror AND it makes the edit.

    2. Often when I am trying to assemble edit onto tape i get this goofy error message that the edit is only one frame long, . I have a marked in and out in the sequence i am trying to assemble to tape, and a valid inpoiint in the ETT window BUT i cant set an out on the ETT window cuz its greyed out.

these both seem like real issues

what am i doing wrong? the book is no help, and i cannot find anyone having the same problem here

os 10.7.4, FCP 5.1.1, Kona LH

    thanx in advance

    ok

so after further stumbling around, it seems like the main and really only problem is getting black on my output instead of video when i try to either insert to tape or assemble to tape and as far as i can tell its from my inpoint being in the middle of a transition. If i move the inpoint so its in between transitions, no problem.

I would call this a bug since i should be able to ETT from ANY point on my timeline

and this is germain to me as i have to base my insert edits on audio rather than video, as we use the AFM audio tracks on our beta sp tapes, and you can hear the edit if its in the middl of a word

does anyone else find this? or am i just a dinosaur printing to beta sp?

[Bob Flood] “have to base my insert edits on audio rather than video, as we use the AFM audio tracks on our beta sp tapes, “

Do you have one of those modified UVW 1800’s with the AFM electronics strapped to the top of the deck?

Otherwise, how do you use AFM (ch. 3&4) audio with an 1800?

Good timing Bob. I discovered the same bug last night trying to do an insert into an HDCam deck. The out point was on the frame where a fade out/ fade up was happening and it drove me nuts until I moved the outpoint to a straight cut. We repeated the bug on and 1800 and a digi 2000.

    thax

exactly! its the Michael Sellman LTD Mod. it allows us to read AFM Audio from beta sp tapes (usually camera rolls)

AND we can master with AFM Audio.

Beta SP is a great video format, but the longitudinal audio is a disaster. its not only marginal qulaity, but the dolby NR was never implemented properly, so its always pumping and breathing, especailly across generations. and its not easy to get tapes without dolby, as the recorder punches out a tab on the tape etc etc

Needless to say, its only a matter of time till we are off SP and onto some other flavor. We have been using HDV to aquire form almost 3 months now, and the only time i go to beta is with a 16 x 9 anamorphic program (or letterbox)

I have no idea what we will master to after Beta SP. it all depends on whats cheap and compatible (theres a subject unto itself hahahah)

    bee eph
