Hello, I am producing a low budget indy film with some students from the high school I teach at.

We are shoot 1080i on the Panasonic AG-HVX200 going to the firestore harddrive.

My question… we shot some demo footage, but could not import it into FC, we tried the Panasonic PS2 setting and it says the footage is corrupt. Are we doing something wrong?

I guess my ultimate question is…

can we shoot 24 fps (should it be 23.98), 1080i and be able to edit it on FCP without issues?

    thanks JOHN

With the Firestore…did you tell it to prep the footage into the P2 format? If you don’t, this will happen.

And as far as I know, you can only shoot 24PN with the 720p setting. 720p24 looks DARN good.

Oh, but you are going to the firestore, so you can’t shoot 24PN, you must shoot 24p over 60fps.

When you shoot 1080 24P on the HVX-200, you’re really shooting 29.97i with pulldown. If you shoot with advanced pulldown you can import & remove the pulldown on import. If you shoot with standard pulldown, you have to run the footage through Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown. Either way, you can convert the footage to true 1080 24P, or 1080 24PsF.

As Shane says, there’s no way to shoot ‘true’ 24P to the Firestore. If you shoot 720P, you’re limited to shooting ’24 over 60′, meaning 24P with duplicate frames inside of a 60P video stream. Basically, it’s the equivalent of pulldown inside of a 29.97i video stream.
