Jpg sizes on timeline
I’m laying out a bunch of jpg’s on the timeline, doing some timelapse.
I was just wondering at what point does the resolution and file size of the jpg become irrelevant?
I’m using files that are 3-8 MB. Would a 500k jpg give me the same quality?SP

If you are at SD DV resolution, the image does not need to be any larger than 720 x 540 and 72 DPI.
Anything much larger than that will slow down the render and not yield better quality.

There is no such thing as SD DV resoltion. Those are 2 different things. But we get the idea.
I think he meant the quality of the jpeg, no? The jpegs should always be all full quality. But then, you shouldn’t use jpegs either. If you have the choice, use an uncompressed image format. Why use a jpeg? Use a tiff, a pict, etc.

File size doesn’t mean anything. Frame size is what matters. As long as the file is 72dpi then you’re at maximum quality for video.
However, if you want to zoom in or do moves on the graphics, then they need to be of a frame size that is appropriate for the move. 720×540 yields a perfect full frame graphic. But if you zoom into 1/3 of that graphic, it will fall apart into bad pixelization.
Generally if I’m doing moves on a graphic, I’ll create the original frame size twice of what my video frame is. So I’ll create a 1440×1080, 72dpi graphic for creating moves in a 720×486 timeline.

Awesome. Thanks everyone for the info. I think I get it. Just stick to the image size of 720×480, unless I plan on zooming in.
and…TIFFS are better than jpgs.Done.
