Had a drive fail, (LaCie case w/Maxtor 250Gig ATA/133 HD) that was RAID 0 striped w/another identical one.

Need to get back up & running quick, and thinking about just swapping drives out for 2 Seagate 300Gig ATA/100 HD’s that I already have. (into the LaCie cases) Haven’t been able to find identical Maxtor to replace the bad one locally.

Question is, 1 of the 300’s has 8 meg cache, the other 16 meg cache. Still work to stripe ’em together RAID 0? They’re both identical except
for cache difference. Also, suppose I’ll notice much performance hit going from 133 down to 100? I’m coming into my box on seperate FW800 busses.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Its always best to stripe two completely identical drives. Its possible that two with different cache sizes will work, but to insure maximum efficiency and peace of mind its best to always use identical drives.
