  • Is there a way to connect render files to nested Clip

So I set up an overnight render using InstandHD to upconvert DV footage to 1080iHDV footage — and it rendered away all night and was 75% complete this morning. I cancel it and the render footage was all there and connected to my nested clip. I was quite satisfied. And then FCP unexpectedly quit while I was doing something else. And when I restarted the the progam, all the pretty green lines were gone, replaced with the angry red lines that make me want to slit my..well never mind.

But the rendered files are there, they are preserved in the render files folder and I can even import them into FCP and technically edit them in where the red lines are….but before i accept that awful fate i thought i’d ask if there was something obvious I was missing. I was never prompted to reconnect the files and I did try to restore the project, but the last restore time was from before I started the render.

One thing I have learned. When you complete a very long render, close FCP first then reopen it before doing anything else.

Did you select all the files in the timeline and do a reconnect on them? I’ve had somethng similar happen to me once and that was my fix for that then. Give that a shot!

i was surprised to find that i could right click on the nested clip and chose reconnect and it listed all the orginal video files associated with the edits from the nested clip – but it didn’t list the render files at all – I’m guesing that info never got saved befre the crash.

Did you try File > Reconnect?
