  • Apply Filter to many clips – Adjust audio to many clips

Posted by Rory Hinds on July 28, 2006 at 2:28 pm

    Hi there

Does anyone know if its possible to apply a video effect to a selection of clips in the timeline?

I’d like to apply a FlipFlop to a selection of clips in my timeline but can’t figure how to do a batch apply and at present have to select each clip and paste in the effect.

The other thing I would like to do is apply a batch Audio Pan to a selection of clips, at the moment I have to select each clip and then pan it right of left manually which is a really bore and I start to feel bit like a monkey behind the keyboard.

Is there a way to select a bunch of clips and apply changes to them all?

    Many thanks
    Rory

ok select the clip yhat you want to coppy the attributes from and right click (or control click if you havent gotten a 2 butten mouse yet) and select copy. Now select all the noew clips that you want to apply that attribute to and right click and select past attributes, here you can select what attributes you want to apply to the new clips ans which attributes you dont want to give it.

    Hi ZRB

Thanks for the tip, which works a treat.

Do you know how to do the same sort of thing to audio tracks?

At the moment I have a project that has 2 Channels of audio, both Center Panned and I need to Un Link the tracks, delect the left track and pan the right track so that is to the Left, then I need to ReLink the 1 audio track to the picture.

Is there a faster way to do this saving myself from doing it manually?

    many thanks
    Rory

If all of the clips of audio you want to adjust are all together on the timeline, just select them all first, then, while they are highlighted, make the audio change.

If they are NOT all together, but scattered throughout the timeline, select each one separately and drag each one down (hold the “shift key” as you do so they won’t SLIP sideways) to a single new audio track that you create for this purpose. Then, on that new audio track, select all of those clips at once, and while they are highlighted, make the audio change.

As for the audio changes you want to make – select all the clips you want to make the same change to (you can hold down the COMMAND [apple] key to select non-adjacent clips) and use the keyboard shortcuts of ctrl-< to pan left, ctrl-> to pan center and ctrl-/ to pan right.

    Hope that helps.

Or, an even easier way to copy filters. Click the Filters tab inthe viewer to show the filter and it’s settings. Go to the timeline and select all the clips you want to copy them to. Use whatever selection method you like: command/select, drag select, etc. Then, from the viewer, select the filter and drag it to the timeline over the selected clips. DONE.

do this all the time with filters like color correct or audio filters.
