    Hi Guys

    Audio Scrub

When I sync two clips together on an Avid I use an audio reference point i.e. ‘Action’. I then highlight both clips and double click; each clip will appear in the source monitor and scrub the first marked frame for me.

If I do this on FCP all I get is the vision but no audio. Can FCP do this?

    MultiClips

On an Avid when I want to change a video camera angle on a multiclip shot, but leave the audio alone, I lock my audio tracks. If I do this on FCP the package gives me a disapproving tone.
I know I can unlink my audio and video using apple L then change video / audio independently but that means more clicks, i.e. highlight the audio and video tracks then apple L and finally change the camera angle. A lot of clicks!

So to ask a simple question can I lock my audio tracks and change the video camera angle of a clip that’s linked?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Many Thanks

    D

    audio scrub
if you have “linked selection” turned off, when you double click a video clip instance in the timeline then only the video will load in the viewer … turn linked selection back on (shift-L) and double clicking the clip will load both video and linked audio.

    multiclip
don’t have much use for multiclip myself, but I would suggest you check that you have chosen “Video” (only) from the View > Multiclip Active Tracks menu

    Thanks for the reply…

    Audio Scrub.

Ok but the clip still doesn’t play the first frame of audio when loaded into the viewer. I still have to move a frame backwards or forwards to hear it.

    Multiclip

Yeah I have, even if you use the Switch Video Only buttons the audio will also change unless the video and audio are unlinked using apple L. I was hoping that locking my audio tracks would override that.

    All the best

    what’s an Avid? (Rhetorical.)

I’ve never used an Avid so I have no idea how it works for mutlicamera edits. I can tell you this: The FCP multiclip function is nothing like Avid’s and, out of the box, it’s lame and overly-complex. There rae at least eight stops you have to make within the interface to get basic functionality out of FCP Mutliclip. It’s not easy, but you can set the audio to stick with some tracks or follow the video and you can make all cameras play in synch in the Viewer with the online switcher in the Canvas. It’s unbelievably silly. But possible.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Yeah I agree that it’s over complicated…

I’m going to suggest the following to Apple for a future release.

To simply change a multiclip camera angle, lock all tracks excluding the track to be changed and then toggle between camera clips. This feature will automatically override the link between the clips’ video and audio.

    Thanks for the reply.
