  • Problem with video duplicating in the Viewer

Posted by Alexf4ez on July 22, 2006 at 3:00 am

Ok, here’s my strange problem. I have FCP 5.0.4 and when i capture video via firewire on my Fx1 i can view it fine using quick time. Now when i try and view it in the ‘Viewer’ in fcp, it plays fine until a certain point when it decides to start playing the same video from the begining. It doesn’t actually go back to the begining in the timecode. The timecode keeps moving as normal, but the video that’s playing was what was recorded at the begining of the clip. What’s even stranger is if i add the entire video clip to my timeline, it plays Normal as well, both rendered and not-rendered.

This seems to happen with fairly long clips. Usually clips longer than 15 min. What i’ve been doing is adding the entire clip to my timeline, and then cutting it up there cause i can actually see what was recorded. It’s a pain, so i wanted to see if you guys have any ideas here. I have tried cleaning out my prefrences and also used FCP Rescue 5.

I’ve been using FCP for about 8 months now and i’ve never encountered this problem because i used to capture individual shorter clips. Only recently did i start capturing entire tapes at once and i’ve ran into this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

I’d say go back to using shorter clips. Capturing long clips and then subclipping is a time saving idea, but in the long run – FCP operates much better with short ones. Your problem does sound odd, however, and I’d want to get to the bottom of it. Try trashing prefs and then post back.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried trashing my prefs a bunch of times, but that doesn’t seem to help.
