  • QuickTime.. no sound?

Posted by Richard Ragon on July 16, 2006 at 3:52 am

This is odd.. Yesterday I was working in FCP, and doing some batch convertions.. and I seam to have lost sound in my Quicktime player?? Anything I play in QT, doesnt have sound. There’s an indicator that the sound is there, but I just dont here it. I can hear the videos if I bring them into FCP, but no sound while watching them with QT?

Is there some setting on QT that got changed somehow?

    Thanks.. anyone.

    Is your Mac audio “muted”?

Is the audio on the Mac (or QT Player) turned down?

Can you hear iTunes playing an y kind of audio?

Go to your System Preferences > Audio > Output and make sure you have selected the correct output for your setup. Also, the volume should be up and the mute button should be unchecked. Of course make sure the cable is plugged in and keep in mind that your Mac’s audio maybe using a different output than FCP which probably uses your capture cards audio outputs.

    No.

    No.

Sure.. iTunes plays normaly, and I can hear it. Any podcast that I’ve downloaded, played though iTunes I can’t hear either it looks like.. Perhaps video played though iTunes, is actualy using the QT engine within iTunes, so I have no sound on any videos played though iTunes either.. Music plays fine.

I have sound though every other means.. I have to use VLC to play videos now.

    Thanks

    Thanks Tony,

I go to my system>Sound.. I have a Revolution PCI Sound card. When I move the volume slider, I hear the little “bubble” sound..

Every other facet of sound is heard on my computer.. it just doesn’t play the sound on QT movies..

Try opening GarageBand, then open quicktime and see if your audio will play. For some reason GarageBand reconfigures sound settings and fixes some audio problems. I know this works in Flash at least. Don’t ask me how.

    Hope This Helps,
