Crop 16:9 footage in 4:3 sequence
I want to use some anamorphic 16:9 footage in a standard 4:3 miniDV sequence. But instead of letterboxing it, I want to bring it “as is” directly into the sequence so that the left side and right size are cropped out. This will actually allow me to pan back and forth a little on the 16:9 footage.
In Adobe Premier this happens automatically when you import 16:9 footage into a 4:3 seqeunce. But in FCP the default is to letterbox the anamorphic footage. Can somebody tell me how to do this? It shouldn’t require any resizing or even rendering of the 16:9 footie. Mahalo!

Well, maybe it shouldn’t, but it does. The 16×9 frame is in fact larger than a 4×3 image, otherwise you would not be able to pan and scan on it. In a 4×3 you’ll need to resize to 133%.

Thanks, that works. Is there some easy way to apply the 1.33 scale correction to every 16:9 clip I am using in the sequnce? or in the project? Sorry to be so amateur…

To apply the scale to all clips, click on the first clip to select it, copy that clip, then select all the other clips you want to affect and then do “paste attributes” and choose “basic motion” from the box that appears and hit OK. Bingo, everyone gets the attributes…
