  Marker Issues

  Hello Im very new to both FCP & Studio Pro and am finding it all a bit overwhelming!

  I cant seem to keep my markers frame accurate when exporting from FCP into Studio Pro. It seems to always be either 1 frame out either way.

  Would really apprieciate any advice you have…

  Correct.

  Markers going to Mpeg2 have to sit on an I-Frame… (or is it P-Frame) well, either way, it’s one in 10-15ish give or take depending on your compression.

  DVDSP will find the closest I-Frame and move your marker there.

  As Captain Mench said….it has to fall on an I frame.

  If you really, really need them to be frame accurate…you can force an I frame in FCP by making the marker a compression marker in additon to being a chapter marker (there is a button for that in the window)

  This is not a limitation of the program…its a limitation of MPEG encoding…not every frame really exists…only I frames are real frames…everything else is interpolated.

  You don’t need to add the compression marker to the chapter marker. If there a chapter marker it’s always an I frame at the start of a new GOP. The real problem is that the discs aren’t accurate. They just don’t skip exactly to the right frame. At least my experience.

  Hi

  Thanks for your suggestions. I have just tried using compression and chapter markers in Final Cut Pro, and all of the points are frame accurate when they are imported into DVD Studio Pro, apart from one. This seems really weird to me, as I have 20 chapter points in my project, and only one isn’t precise. I thought this was something to do with a corrupt clip or sequence, so I have created new ones. I have also tried exporting the clip from another project, but nothing has made any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem with this one chapter point could be?
