Keying problems
So this is very strange to me. I captured some footage that was shot on film and transfered to Digibeta using a Kona LH card and capturing 10bit 4:2:2. I also captured some footage that was shot on HDcam; I rented an HDcam deck captured this footage 10bit too, but on a different computer using the same type of card. I just recieved a phone call from one of our rotoscopers who says that on both sets of footage the blue is exceptionally grainy and difficult to key. We often shoot using a varicam and capture via firewire using the DVCPROHD codec and have never had these types of problems really…and that is super compressed and should be a format with more of these problems, I would think. Why is the 10bit footage keying so poorly? She says that she is running grain removal filters and chroma smoothing filters but to no avail. She also says that none of the other color channels seem to be as noisy. Not only were these shot on different formats and pulled from different formats, but they were not the same DP, so can’t blame it in him for pushing the film or whatever…Must be on this end. Anyone having any problems pulling keys on footage that is captured with the Apple 10bit codec using a Kona card?
Thanks,
